Crisis Resources

The resources immediately below are for individuals in need of crisis support. Nearly all these resources can be accessed simply by calling or texting 988. You can call for yourself or for someone you care about, and trained operators can help you access appropriate services in your area.

National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: 988 or go to 988lifeline.org
- 24 hr phone support for persons in crisis. Support is provided by paraprofessional volunteers. Users can call or text 988 or chat on the webpage above. You can call for support for yourself OR for someone else.

Contra Costa Crisis Center: 800-273-8255 or text HOPE to 20121 or go to: www.crisis-center.org
- Mental health support services for Contra Costa County residents that can provide talk and text support as well as referrals to local services and mobile crisis intervention. They also have a mobile crisis team that can come to locations in the county if you or a loved one is in immediate danger.

-  Another part of the Contra Costa County Crisis Center. They offer a separate grief hotline available 24 hours a day

Crisis Support Services of Alameda County:  800-309-2131  or Text SAFE to 20121 or go to: www.crisissupport.org
- Mental health support services for Alameda County residents that can provide talk and text support as well as referrals to local services.

STAND! for Families Free of Violence:  888-215-5555 or go to: www.standffov.org
- Non-profit agency working to end family violence. The support line is staffed 24 hours a day.

- Alameda County agency providing support and services for domestic violence

Mental Illness:

- Organization providing support and education to people affected by mental illness and their families. 

ADHD:

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD)
- Support organization for people with ADHD. More focused on children and their parents

Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA)
- Support organization focused on adults with ADHD

Autism Society of America
- Support organization for persons with Autism and their families.

Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB)
- California government-funded center tasked with providing support services to people with Autism and other disabilities

Gifted Children:

National Association for Gifted Children
- National support organization for gifted children and their families

California Association for the Gifted
- Similar organization specific to the needs of gifted children in California

Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG)
- Support organization that focuses more on the unique emotional needs of gifted children and adults.

Learning Disabilities:

Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA)
- Support organization for persons with a range of learning disabilities and their families

The Dyslexia Foundation
- Support organization focused specifically on the needs of children and adults with dyslexia

Parents Helping Parents (PHP)
- Bay area support group for parents and others dealing with disabilities that educates and advocates for services in schools and other public settings.

Disabilities Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF)
- Another bay area group providing support and advocacy to people with disabilities and their families.

Community Alliance for Special Education (CASE)
- CASE provides support and advocacy to parents and children navigating the special education system.

Poise (Parents of Orinda Individuals in Special Education)
- Support group for parents of children accessing special education services in the Orinda CA school district

LGBTQI+:

Perinatal Mental Health

- Support organization that provides information, resources and advocacy for perinatal mental health.
